It was the time when Internet appeared in our daily life, when we started to discover that through the web we could find information for our homework. It was the time when I searched for pictures of my favorite artists (The Beatles) and cartoons (The Simpsons). It was when having internet at home was expensive and one had to go to rent a computer for $20 pesos per hour to chat using mIRC and found the “information” mentioned above.

One of those days, by the middle of the 90’s, I found a set of philosophical phrases to face the day by day of our modern life. I printed it, and pastes it at the back of my room’s door.
Now twelve years later, I want to recover those simple but remarkable phrases which indeed changed and formed my mind. Here we go…

1) Give to the people more than they expect from you, and do it pleased
2) Memorize your favorite poem
3) Don’t believe everything you hear, don’t spend all that you have, don’t sleep all that you want
4) When you say “I Love You”, feel it
5) When you say “I’m Sorry” look to the eyes
6) Engage with your loved one at least 6 months before you get married
7) Believe in love at first sight
8) Never laugh about one’s dreams, people who don’t dream doesn’t have anything
9) Love deeply and passionately, maybe you’ll get hurt, but it’s the only way to completely live
10) If you disagree stand clean, be polite
11) Don’t judge someone by looking to their relatives
12) Speak smooth, but think fast
13) When someone asks you something that you don’t want to answer, smile and say “Why do you want to know that?”
14) Remember that success or a great love, implies risks and sacrifices
15) Say “Pleasure” when you hear someone sneeze (Or “salud” in Spanish)
16) When you loose, don’t loose what you learned
17) Remeber the three “R’s”: Respect yourself, Respect the other ones and Responsibility of your actions
18) Don’t allow problems to end a friendship
19) When you realize that you have screwed it up, take actions rapidly
20) Smile when you answer the phone, the person who calls will hear the smile on your voice
21) Marry with someone you love to talk, when you became old, the conversational skills will be as important as the other ones
22) Spend sometime on your own
23) Open your arms to the change, but don’t loose your values
24) Remember that silence, sometimes it’s the better answer
25) More books, less TV
26) Live a good and honorable life, when you become old you’ll enjoy remember it
27) Trust in God (or your spiritual beliefs), but lock the car’s door
28) A love atmosphere in your home it’s important, do the possible to bring harmony and calm
29) During the fights with your loved ones, fight for the present, don’t bring the past alive
30) Read between homework
31) Share your knowledge, it’s one of the ways to be immortal
32) Be gentle and smooth with the Mother Earth
33) Pray, there’s an infinite power on it
34) Never interrupt when someone pleases (flatters) you
35) Stay away from what doesn’t concerns you
36) Don’t trust in someone who doesn’t close her/his eyes when you kiss em’
37) Once in the year, go to a place where you’ve never been to
38) Give money to the poor ones while you’re alive; that’s the biggest happiness of being rich
39) If you can’t get what you want, sometimes it’s for good luck
40) Learn the rules, then break some of them
41) A great relationship is the one which demonstrate that love surpasses the needing of each other
42) Measure your success with what you had sacrificed or gave, to get it
43) Remember that the way you are, it’s your destiny
44) Don’t fear about love and cuisine
45) Do not hesitate!. Life is running now, thrive, get out and try it before you die; Leave the things that doesn’t matter to conquer the time

Continuing with the podcast series dedicated to expose those musicians or bands who sings in English, but not being this language their mother tongue, this time is time for France.

French musicians have demonstrated a great talent to offer high-quality electronic and pop contemporary music.
This episode is dedicated to them. Bands -and something to remark is that the three of the JP3 15’s suggestions are lead by duos-, who have just changed the course of modern and electronic music.

Once again the theory of using English to promote and to easily reach major musical markets such as USA, Europe, UK and even non-English-spoken countries, could be confirmed due to that many people around the world know this guys.

Continuando con este “ensayo podcástico”, el episodio número catorce les presenta un conjunto de propuestas que vienen de países en dónde se tiene una lengua oficial diferente al idioma inglés.

¡Y no solo eso!, además se toparán con artistas/agrupaciones muy interesantes y sobre todo muy reconocidas en su ámbito, género, estilo, época; y que si uno no les revisa bien fácilmente creería que son de un país como Estados Unidos, Inglaterra, Irlanda, Canada, entre otros.

El ensayo auditivo, no solo les va llevando de un país a otro, o de un continente a otro; además dispuse de las canciones de tal manera que se vayan prendiendo poco a poco. Una progresión de canciones que empieza en Noruega y termina en Brasil. Las canciones están ordenadas de tal manera que empiecen la fiesta escuchando Röyksoop, con unas bebidas relajantes en un lugar minimalista; y para que ya avanzada la fiesta, no se me duerman y se ponga a dar de brincos con Sepultura.

Exajeré un poco con la duración del podcast, si bien es cierto que no les va a durar más que para servirse la primer bebida; de lo que estoy seguro es de que van a poder apreciar diferentes estilos, diferentes países y una misma lengua.

Well, as a Mac OS X user, we fortunately have a feature called “Widgets”, which are simple, modest but powerful and very useful applications. One of those is “AccuWeather“.
As you may see in the picture above, it exactly ilustrates and informs how is the day in this moment. And of course how it’ll be the following days… 39 degrees on saturday!! :(.

I don’t like to do advertising just for free, but this little app has been really useful to me. In addition the graphics which represents the virtual conditions of the day, are just precise. I’m looking through my window and the moon looks as the picture above.

I don’t know what kind of solution do they have for Windows user, but a least for Mac OS X they do it very well.
I see that in their website they have a variety of products for consumer or single users. One of those are: Email notification, add-ons for your website-blog-myspace, Storm trackers, PDA’s notification and many more.

So, Mac users, do not hesitate in activating AccuWeather in the Dashboard.

Qué tal amig@s, aquí estamos de nuevo proveyendo de música y un buen cotorreo para Ustedes que gustan de “lo bueno” (así le dicen los melómanos… tal vez es puro cliché).

La idea de hacer un episodio en donde exhibamos a mexicanos componiendo e interpretando sus obras en la lengua inglesa, me vino a la mente, por varias razones:

(1) Hay y escuchamos extranjeros que son famosísimos -The Hives, Daft Punk-, que si no le buscamos un poquito, cualquiera creería que son estadounidenses o británicos. Pero resulta que no. Son de países, en donde al igual que en México, su idioma no tiene nada que ver con el inglés -sueco y francés, respecto a los ejemplos anteriores- y que, en parte, gracias a que sus composiciones están en inglés es fácil “entenderles” en cualquier rincón del mundo.

(2) Como segunda razón, hace unos días tocaba guitarra y por ahí tengo mis letras, en español claro -pero próximamente en inglés ¡ja, ja!-; y me quedé pensando en porqué no intentar cantarlas en inglés… pero inmediatamente me abrumé y me dije “eres un malinchista… no seas incongruente y compón en español”, pero también (tratando de justificarme ¡je!) me dije “oye pero ¿qué onda con los suecos, franceses, alemanes, “yapanises” que le cantan en inglés? ¡a ellos no se la hacen de pedo!… y sus lenguas, neta que nada que ver con el inglés”.

¿Será que en México no nos hemos abierto totalmente a producir (cualquiera que sea el área) en inglés?, ¿será que no le hemos entrado de lleno a la globalización?. Quiero aclarar que NO estoy diciendo, que dejemos de hablar español, ni de promover nuestro idioma. ¡Eso jamás!, nuestra lengua es hermosa en muchos y todos los sentidos en los que se le quiera ver.
Es un hecho que el inglés está presente todos los días en nuestro país. La publicidad, los nombre los productos y marcas, lo que leemos en Internet, la música que escuchamos; siempre hay una palabrita o frase en inglés.

Pero la gran mayoría no lo ejecutamos en nuestro día a día. Para cerrar este tema, les pongo un ejemplo que viví hace unos días: Llamé a Suecia para informarme sobre unos requisitos para una maestría, obviamente la persona me contestó en sueco (no tengo idea qué dijo, supongo que “buenos días, departamento de admisiones…”) y yo le contesté “Excuse me, Do you speak English? I am calling from Mexico” y lo demás fue una conversación totalmente en inglés.
Es sabido que los habitantes de Suecia son de los mejor que hablan inglés en Europa, aún cuando su idioma oficial es el sueco. Y tal vez esa disposición “en tiempo real” de poder conversar en inglés, es la razón por la cual se da ese fenomeno.

Espero sus opiniones, de este tema que naturalmente, es controversial.

Estamos de regreso y en esta ocasión dedicamos este espacio a Metallica. Una banda que en la adolescencia fue muy importante en mi formación musical.
Además, en compañía de mi primo José Alejandro, les hablamos del documental “Some Kind Of Monster“, el cual al verlo nos entusiasmó para hablarles de él en este episodio y entender de dónde salió el último material de Metallica -St. Anger- el cual aún no terminamos de digerir.

Casualmente se prestó para presentarles la transición de tres bajistas que ha tenido Metallica; Cliff Burton (Q.E.P.D) seguido de Jason Newsted y finalmente Robert Trujillo.

Y continuando con las noticias, me vengo enterando hace unos días del nuevo material discográfico que la legendaria banda estará sacando a la venta a finales de este año. Y lo mejor de todo, es que han creado un website denominado Mission Metallica, el cual estará listo en mayo, en donde podrán experimentar el disco y retroalimentar a los reyes del trash metal antes de su lanzamiento al público. Lo que me da gusto ver, es el logotipo clásico de Metallica, ¿será que quieren reconciliarse con sus primeros fans (80’s)? ¿volverá a ser otro material forzado por la necesidad de seguir metiendo billete a la bolsa?. Está por verse.

Aquí tienen el décimo episodio de JP3. Les recomiendo que al menos se sirvan una copita de vino, un rico whiskey o lo que gusten, ya que las tres obras que les presento ameritan ser bien disfrutadas.

Evidentemente, el género Jazz Fusión o Progresivo, no es un género musical digamos sencillo. A mi parecer, y en mi corta trayectoria siguiendo este género (2 años), es un género complejo, que no a la primera logras digerir auditivamente hablando. La prueba es tal que nunca escucharás alguna canción de estas en un horario estelar de la -mugrosa- radio comercial FM… ¡es por eso que existen los podcasts!.

De los tres exponentes, a quien quiero destacar es a Alonso Arreola. Él es un bajista mexicano, activista, artista de conciencia social cultural y política, periodista musical y una persona muy interesante. Les recomiendo que visiten y se suscriban con algún lector de RSS (recomiendo Google Reader) al blog de Alonso, titulado LabA Alonso Arreola.

Haciendo un poco de conciencia respecto a la nefasta “Fiesta Taurina”. He aquí lo que piensan turistas de diversas nacionalidades respecto a esta fiesta española, que también -estúpidamente- se practica en México y algunos países de América Latina.

Una asociación antitaurina ha colgado en Youtube una grabación en la que se ven las reacciones de horror de las turistas asistentes a una corrida en la plaza barcelonesa.

“¡Vergüenza!”, dice una. Otra no puede esconder las lágrimas y se tapa el rostro después de ver un espectáculo que seguramente no era tal y como se lo imaginaba. «No pensaba que iba a ser así», afirma otra de las asistentes a la corrida.
