Paul Van Dyk’s concert review

My cousin and I arrived at 9:00 PM to the “Arena Monterrey”. Finally I met the Arena, which recently became an important place where you can catch high quality artists and bands with their respective awesome shows and performances. All of this in north of Mexico.
Through the Arena Monterrey had passed artists like: U2, Depeche Mode, The Rolling Stones, (this time) Paul Van Dyk, Soda Stereo, Heroes del Silencio and many more. The following on the list is Iron Maiden on the end of February. I have to say that the Arena counts with nice and modern facilities. Everything is in its place and comfortable.
When we got inside the “playground” there were playing two local DJ’s. I kick myself for not remembering their names, specially for the second one, who played Progressive House with a Tech-Electro sound what I like most. Paul Van Dyk started to play aproximately at 12:00 AM and ended at 2:30 AM.
I don’t like trance genre, despite it was the first kind of electronic music I heard and by which I started to listen. Paul played (mixed is technically more correct) some remarkable songs like:
+ Born Slippy Nuxx - Underworld
+ We Are Alive
+ For An Angel
+ Seven Nation Army (sample) - The White Stripes
+ Let Me Show You - Fatboy Slim
The stage set-up was quite simple. Only a big screen for visuals and behind the DJ equipment there where 3 flat screens that displayed the same visuals shown at the big screen. In addition there was a laser beam which lighten the whole Arena.
Something interesting was to see Paul playing a MIDI keyboard following songs with trance riffs. In that case, he was not only mixing songs, he was playing and that is by far better than just mixing songs.
Hi, How u’all doing? I´d like to know the aprox amount of people that went to the concert. In order of importance which ones do you think are the top 5 Dj´s claimed by the Mty people?
Greetings to Enrique, great report!
Hey! Sorry for answering so late…
I think there were between 5,000 and 10,000 people at the venue.
About the (most commercials) Top Five DJ’s, I think they are:
1) Armin Van Buuren
2) Tiesto
3) Paul Van Dyk
4) Bob Sinclair
5) Paul Oakenfold
You can find more information about that, here: http://www.thedjlist.com/djs/
I don’t agree with that self-invented Top Five, though it depend of the genre you like. One who likes Psycho genre, will hardly agree with the above mentioned.
